To celebrate the Wright brothers’ heroic achievement, Scrapheap Challenge has put together three international teams of aircraft experts. Britain, France and the US all made valuable contributions to the early history of flight and our 3 representative teams have just 20 hours to build airplanes of the early 1900’s, using only materials and tools that were available in 1903 which they find in our antiquated scrap heap. The US Federal Aviation Authority examines the planes for air-worthiness before flying a course over half a mile in the Mojave Desert. Twenty-seven teams from the USA to China, Australia to Russia and Germany to Chile are given one month and 2000 pounds sterling ($3,000.00) to build their supreme dream machine. Mega Wars (Scraphead Challenge Special)

The ultimate and spectacular Mega Challenge: to build a multi-purpose hybrid Mega-Machine part off-roader, part hill-climber, and part amphibious vehicle. It must be rugged and adaptable enough to transport our team members and their on-road experts on a marathon 26-mile race across Death Valley, California. The first complete team past the finish line with the vehicle, in however many pieces, will be the winner. MegaChallenge is their chance to show they are as ingenious as our amateur bodgers and prove beyond doubt which nation is the true Scrap Superpower. go to top
